The annual Oktoberfest was held on Saturday, October 19th after
the successful conclusion of the NSSC Anchor Bay Fall Series.
The racing action on the bay was fast-paced, in blustry conditions
(westerly winds in the mid to upper twenties with sustained winds
around 30 knots at the end of the race). Certain members of the
Level 35 fleet engaged in a peculiar sort of one-upmanship that
seemed to be a contest for the most spectacular evolution from full-plane
chute run to crew-dunking broach. 'Honors' here went to the unabashed
crew of Mambo King (who showed the fleet that the bottom of their
keel is clean even in late October), though X-Heartbreaker also
showed that they can wipe out with the best of 'em. Sorry, no pictures
here and a pity too as there might have been plenty of material
for Dr. Crash. Race series results are available here.
Afterwards, crews and friends gathered at NSSC for the Oktoberfestivities
which included the 2nd annual 'You gotta Raingutter Regatta'. Homemade
boats built from kits competed side-by-side in two-leg races down
(and back-down) gutters.

The party at the club was well-attended, with over 100 people staying
for dinner. 'The Four Heads' kicked out the Jams, and bartenders
stayed busy keeping the beverages flowing ...
